Short bio
Javier Gonzalez-Jimenez is the head of the Machine Perception and Intelligence Robotics (MAPIR-UMA group) and a full professor (Catedratico) at the University of Malaga. He has a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sevilla, and a Ph.D. in Control Systems and Robotics from the University of Malaga. During his PhD he spent one year at the Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University (USA) working on mobile robots. He has been leading Spanish and European projects on mobile robotics and perception for more than 25 years. His research interest includes mobile robot autonomous navigation, computer vision, and robotic olfaction. In these fields, he has co-authored more than 250 scientific works, including three books and more than 100 SCI-JCR journal papers.
Ongoing projects I’m leading
- ARPEGGIO: Advanced Robotic Perception for Mapping and Localization (Sep’21 – Feb’25). (Funded by the Spanish Research Agency)
- MINDMAPS: Semantic topometric maps as models of the environment for intelligent robots (1 Sep’24 – 31 Aug27). (Funded by the Spanish Research Agency)
