The IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Robots and Intelligent Systems, one of the most important conferences in the field of robotics research, was held last October in the Japanese city of Kyoto. In this 2022 edition, under the title Embodied AI for a Symbiotic Society, it has gathered more than 3800 attendees to explore the present and future of global robotics. MAPIR has contributed with the presentation of the paper Unsupervised Appearance Map Abstraction for Indoor Visual Place Recognition With Mobile Robots, also published in the IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters journal.

Our colleage J. Raúl Ruiz Sarmiento won the “Robotnik” award for the best thesis in robotics, presented in the “Jornadas de Automática 2017” event, celebrated in Gijón, Spain, in the month of September. In the final round he presented his thesis, entitled “Probabilistic Techniques in Semantic Mapping for Mobile Robots“, co-directed by Prof. Javier González Jiménez and…
One of the works published along this year by the MAPIR group is bringing an important attention from the social media. The work, GADEN: A 3D Gas Dispersion Simulator for Mobile Robot Olfaction in Realistic Environments presents a simulation framework fusing mobile robotics and gas dispersion theory to ease the development of new algorithms and methods in…
To share the knowledge and technical advances of our lab, the MAPIR group (represented on this occasion by Javier G. Monroy) attended the SMART RURAL “FIMART” innovation fair. In its third edition, this innovation fair brought together companies and research facilities with the aim to promote technology transfer and innovation in rural areas.
